The Billericay School / Sixth Form
We pride ourselves that we can offer an excellent education to all our students, whatever their needs or plans for the future. We value the sixth formers as significant and important members of the school community, and understand that they need their own separate environment and identity, whilst benefiting from all of the resources that a specialist maths and computing college can bring.
We invite you to investigate for yourself and feel certain that you will agree that The Billericay School Sixth Form offers an educational and pastoral experience, which will prepare you for the twenty-first century.
At the Billericay School you will find a thriving and vibrant community, popular with students who have spent their GCSE years with us, as well as students from a much wider area, attracted by the wide variety of courses on offer. We can also offer a proven record of successful examination performance and outstanding university entrance. Feedback from previous students, OFSTED inspections, and value added performance data tell us we can be rightly proud of our achievements. Every year Students leave us to pursue subjects ranging from anthropology and architecture to physiotherapy and Zoology, at the entire range of higher education institutions, including Oxford and Cambridge .
The variety of AS and A2 subjects which are on offer is comprehensive. We aim to provide a curriculum that is stimulating and suitable for students of all abilities and interests. In addition to the major subjects to be found in any good sixth form, our size means that we are also able to offer A Levels in areas such as Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Music Technology, textiles, Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Information Technology, Business Studies, Design Technology and Physical Education. As well as offering twenty-eight “A” Levels there are also courses such as the BTEC national in Business studies and as a Maths and computing specialist college there is also the A+ course in ICT and Further Mathematics A level as well as a course in GNVQ Intermediate Business.
Our Sixth Form Studies and curriculum enrichment course is designed to ensure our students are fully rounded, informed and active citizens. We aim to broaden the students’ knowledge and awareness of current events as well as the world of work. They have the opportunity to contribute to the wider community as well as receiving information about their own future career prospects and the university application process. All students are entered for General Studies A Level, giving them an extra boost when applying for university and giving them an education that goes beyond the confines of the exam specifications. They also have the opportunity to gain the Key Skills award at Level 2 or 3.
Our attractive Sixth Form centre provides an excellent focus for social, academic and study purposes. It consists of a large common room, study room, separate computing facilities and its own café style food servery. Students also have their own Library area. Students are encouraged to take a significant amount of responsibility for their own self supported learning and we provide the study facilities for them to do this successfully. Students are supported in this by the tutor team, who discuss private study requirements and make study contract agreements with their students. Sixth Form students are also encouraged to take a mature attitude to monitoring their own development and discuss their progress at regular intervals with their personal tutor who will help devise action plans and generally oversee the students social and academic development. The Head of Sixth Form also carefully supervises the pastoral and academic aspects of school life and helps the tutor to set challenging targets for students to measure their progress against.
