The Greening Campaign is coming to Billericay. A public meeting is being held on Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at Emmanuel Church, Laindon Road, BIllericay at 7.30 pm. Come and discuss the campaign with the council and choose simple steps for our community to save energy, CO2 and money. All are welcome.
The media regularly feature climate change and the need for ‘green’ lifestyles. But what can the individual do? One answer is to participate in the Greening Campaign which enables local responses to these challenges. Terena Plowright began the campaign in Petersfield and her success has led to many other towns seeing the campaign as a way to reduce CO2 and water wastage. Billericay is the first Essex community to launch the campaign - we are truly trailblasers. The campaign, which is also meant to be fun and co-operative, is community-based and encourages groups and individuals to commit to and implement small, inexpensive actions. These will also help reduce annual household budgets. Examples of these small actions (20 in total) are:
- turning off lights when leaving a room (save £1.49 and 6kg of CO2);
- turning off standbys (save £37.30 and stop 155kg of CO2 going into the air).
Many community groups, including all schools, have been approached for interest and commitment. It is hoped all schools will take ownership for one or more of the ‘small, inexpensive actions’ at a public meeting which has been arranged for;
7:30pm onTuesday, 23rd March 2010 in Emmanuel Church, Laindon Road, Billericay.
All schools, pupils and parents will be warmly welcome. Please put this date in your diary.
